Repsol
Spain
Repsol is multi-energy company capable of meeting all its customers' energy needs, both at home and on the move. The company currently employs 25,000 people in over 20 countries and serves 24 million customers. Repsol boasts one of Europe's most efficient refining systems, capable of processing over one million barrels of crude oil per day. As a cornerstone of its decarbonization strategy, the company's industrial complexes on the Iberian Peninsula are currently being transformed into multienergy hubs capable of processing a wide variety of feedstocks and waste materials for use in the production of low-carbon products such as 100% renewable fuels. Following its own road map, Repsol has built and is now operating the first-ever facility on the Iberian Peninsula for industrial-scale production of renewable fuels. A second such facility in Puertollano is slated to begin operating in 2026. The aim is to reach a total renewable fuels production capacity of 1.5 to 1.7 million tons by 2027 and up to 2.7 million tons by 2030. In addition to these projects, Repsol is about to begin construction at the Tarragona Industrial Complex on the first plant in Europe that will transform unrecyclable municipal waste into renewable methanol, which will assist in the decarbonization of transportation, and circular economy products. Renewable hydrogen is another pillar of Repsol's industrial transformation. The company plans to install electrolyzers at its six industrial complexes in Spain and Portugal and produce 700 MW of renewable hydrogen by 2027 and up to 2,400 MW by 2030. To date, Repsol already has one electrolyzer operational its Petronor refinery. Repsol's industrial activity also involves manufacturing a wide variety of high value-added petrochemical products that are used in the production of everyday objects that are essential to society, such as computers, telephones, household appliances, electrical cables, sporting footwear, toothbrushes, safety helmets, mattresses, medical containers and masks, and surgical caps and gowns. The company is also a leading supplier of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in Spain, with four million customers, and markets its lubricants in over 90 countries around the world. In its hydrocarbon Exploration and Production business, Repsol's activity focuses on geographic areas with competitive advantages and maximum value, especially in OECD countries such as the United States. It produces an average total of 571,000 barrels of oil per day and has proven reserves of 1.747 billion barrels equivalent. Repsol's extensive network of 4,500 service stations supplies fuel to customers in Spain, Portugal, Peru, and Mexico, and is adding alternatives such as EV charging, 100% renewable fuels, Autogas, and natural gas for vehicles. It currently supplies 100% renewable diesel at more than 840 service stations on the Iberian Peninsula and plans to expand this offering to 1.500 in 2025. Today, the company has over 2,800 public EV charging stations in Spain and 3,000 more through agreements with third parties, for a total of more than 5,800 EV charging stations. In residential power, Repsol has 2.5 million power and gas customers in Spain and Portugal, making it the fourth-largest power retailer in Spain. The company also offers solar PV solutions for homes, homeowner's communities, and businesses to produce and consume their own energy. Repsol has 9.3 digital customers mostly through Waylet, Spain's number-one loyalty and payment app for mobility. Waylet can be used at any Repsol service station and unlocks a wide array of offers, products, and services. Renewable electricity generation is yet another pillar of Repsol's decarbonization strategy. In recent years, Repsol has built up a diversified portfolio of projects largely concentrated in Spain, the United States, and Chile, allowing the company to consolidate its position as an international operator in the sector. Its asset portfolio includes wind, solar PV, and hydroelectric facilities with an installed capacity of nearly 3.700 MW. From here, the company aims to increase generation capacity to 9,000 MW. To make this transformation possible, Repsol has designed a strategy that relies on the talent of its employees, process digitalization, and the development of new technologies. This strategy will allow Repsol to continue on its path towards decarbonization, thus fulfilling the commitment that the company has made to society: to become a net zero emissions company by 2050.
