SOLRESS project
Industrial solvent production currently relies on petrochemical feedstocks, which are volatile, toxic, and have a high carbon footprint. Technically, traditional solvents like ethyl or butyl acetate pose significant environmental and health risks due to high emissions and hazardous chemical compositions.
The SOLRESS project addresses this by replacing fossil-based precursors with second-generation organic waste, such as spent coffee grounds and woody biomass. This shift solves the technical challenge of maintaining high-performance standards (solvency power and stability) in demanding sectors like coatings and cosmetics, while eliminating the dependency on finite, high-toxicity petroleum derivatives.
