RE-CORD
Italy
Stand A12
RE-CORD is a non-profit private-public research center, participated in (among others) by the University of Florence and the Polytechnic of Turin.
It was founded in 2010 to address basic and applied research, engineering, and sustainable land planning and development, while creating a synergistic effect by combining expertise and resources from its members and its multidisciplinary team of researchers. RE-CORD is deeply engaged in the development of innovative thermochemical processes and technologies for converting biomass streams into high-value products and renewable energy. Regarding its major areas of internal research in the Bioeconomy field, these mainly include pyrolysis, algae, and biopolymers.
In terms of pyrolysis, in addition to R&D activities on bio-oil from biomass pyrolysis, one of the main focuses is biocoal production from biowaste and raw material extraction. In this respect, RE-CORD has closely collaborated with private actors (leaders in their respective sectors) in the energy, steel, agriculture, and waste management industries to develop advanced industrial solutions.
RE-CORD is listed among the R&D, Pilot, and Demo sites in Italy’s National Strategy document, promoted by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers.
It operates an Experimental Area equipped with pilot-scale industrial plants that have been designed, built, and are actively operated to test innovative processes under real-world conditions, including: Slow & Intermediate Pyrolysis, Hydrothermal Liquefaction, Anaerobic Digestion, a patented Leaching process, and a Condensation Unit.
RE-CORD has approximately 26 researchers, including mechanical, environmental, and energy engineers, chemists, agronomists, and biologists.
