Giuliano was a mentor for many, indeed my main mentor: he trasmitted always his positive mood, open mind, imagination to the persons around, particularly to the youngers.
In fact, he always loved having young people close to him, engaging them on discussions around sustainability, energy and global issues, while globalization was yet to become a matter for common people.
I met Giuliano mid ’90s for the first time. A very kind and modest person, even if so knowledgeable. Anywhere in the world of bioenergy I was travelling, he was well known and respected.
For a young post doc student, as I was at the time, Giuliano was opening a window to a dimension totally new to me.
I believe the genius is actually the ability of connecting dots, bringing ideas to a different field, so to develop solutions that were not there before. I think this was Giuliano, in profound, and this is how I remember him. He left something to all of us, and the team I have formed over the years has his roots in what Giulian taught me. We will all miss him a lot, but it is also sweet memory having been next to him and his humanity for a long time. His mood and spirit will alway stay with all of us.
