TNO, The Netherlands Organisation of Applied Scientific Research, is an independent not-for-profit research organisation having about 3500 employees working in major applied research areas, of which energy and materials transition is a leading theme. The TNO research group Biobased and Circular Technologies (BCT) focuses on (thermo)chemical conversion of biobased and circular feedstock. A range of lab-to-pilot experimental facilities (gasification, pretreatment/fractionation, combustion, pyrolysis, dry/wet torrefaction, gas cleaning/upgrading, catalytic synthesis) are available for technology development and industry support. Recent extensions include a dedicated seaweed processing lab and a sustainable biofuels technology lab for both gasification-based and fractionation-based biofuels technology development.
